Gift Guide for the Dog Lover

We all have that friend, who runs across the street to pet a strangers dog. If at a party with one present they spend most their time with the canine. Or for the ones that own a dog, they cancel most plans just because of "dog" or maybe it's that they prefer dogs over people or maybe I'm just talking about myself here. Alas, enough of the yip yap here is my ultimutt gift guide for the dog lover friend or loved one.

Stinson Beach, California

I had the pleasure of visiting Stinson Beach, "Northern California's best kept secret" two weekends back and it was serene. The cutest sleepy little beach town located about 45 minutes north west of San Francisco. I was lucky enough to stay with Torrey at her parents beautiful beach house just minutes from the beach and quick drive to the main street with boutique beach shops, the cutest little cafes and the infamous 1921 Sand Dollar 'locals' restaurant

Palihouse, Santa Monica

If you are thinking of visiting Los Angeles, stay at the Palihouse is the absolute best hotel I’ve stayed at to date. It’s located in a quiet residential neighborhood right smack dab in the heart of Santa Monica, best beach and town area in my opinion of LA, walking distance to the third street promenade, farmers market and three blocks from the ocean. The hotel has 38 furnished rooms, we were lucky enough to stay in one of the most beautiful suites. My favorite part of the hotel would be the history. The building has been meticulously maintained from it’s birth in 1927 and remains renowned for it’s elegant exterior, lush courtyards and oh so gracious lobby. It’s an outstanding example of Moorish-influenced Mediterranean Revival Architecture.

Freckles Fancies // December

The smell of fresh pine needles, or excitement of being wrapped up in wool blankets, sipping on hot chocolate by the fire, slipping on rainboots, binge-watching holiday classics, cozying up in turtlenecks or strutting around my apartment decked out in plaid are just a few of my favorites things that make me smile during the holiday season, along with family traditions. It’s my favorite time of year to take a breath, count my blessings and be grateful that I have a home over my head and have people in my life who I get to love.

A Foggy Fall Picnic

Cue foggy skies, plaid cozy blankets, warm apple cider and a perfectly styled picnic. This picnic gave us all the fall feels last week when we took a trip up to Mount Tamales for the morning. Styled by the incredibly talented, Chrissy McDonald from Harlowe James. This cozy picnic was the highlight of my end in Autumn.

Sit on the porch and sip on this festive cocktail

It's that magical time of year when the leaves start to fall, pumpkin spice lattes have made their infamous return and JCrew comes out with their much-anticipated fall collection. Three of my favorite reminders that fall is upon us. Thank goodness. In the name of this seasons arrival, Torrey and I wanted to create a festive but strong drink for the occasion. The cinnamon dipped rim, apple slice and cinnamon sticks add for the perfect fall cocktail.

Carrera Cafe, Los Angeles

There are very few people in this world who don't enjoy a warm and tasty cup of coffee — we don't trust those people . . . just kidding (sort of). For the other very large part of the universe who think about their second cup of joe before they even finish their first, Carrera Cafe is one joint to add to the list. Located off of Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles this sunny European cafe is a cafe of dreams. Famous for its latte art, the designer instead of me was head of heels for bright white interiors, painted white brick, hexagon tile floor with black grout, marble tabletops and black accents. So beautiful. Whether you're the one who loves the strong kick of an espresso, an insta-worthy latte or filling sweet pastries and egg sandwiches this place has got it going on. They feature their art expresso.

Color of Fall

My goto color for Fall… deep emerald green. It spoke to me when I bought this ruffle houndstooth skirt at JCrew. It’s no doubt my favorite fall skirt and ended up pairing perfectly with my deep emerald green over the knee boots from Nordstrom and the Italian leather shoulder bag from JCrew.  The boots instantly embolden my look crafted with suede and a chunky block heel to heighten it’s leggy allure. To wear this bold trend, it works well to play with a variety of textures. I went with velvet, houndstooth and cotton for my winning combination and added a black beret as my final accessory to bring the look together.

Halloween Styling, Williams Somona

Inspired by the sight of leaving falling, the arrival of fall sweaters and Halloween being just around the corner I was motivated to style my dining room table all things October. With Autumn upon us, I threw in the Buffalo runner* & napkins, pumpkin plates, bowl, and cuff. I fell in love with each of these pieces last month when I was strolling by Chestnut Street in the city and spotted them in the Pottery Barn window (on sale!). The beautiful wood names were created by the amazing Courtnee Cloud, signage thanks to McGee & Co and fall florals scattered around the room thanks to BloomThat.

Suiting up for Fall

There are a couple things I cannot live without. Red lipstick, a killer blazer, a pop of gingham and a strong cup of coffee. This fall I'm suiting up with J Crew. J Crew is the one brand I anticipate their fall line release the most. The continuous google search, refresh of Jcrew.com until the day finally comes. Their fall line is finally accessible to the public. Last week, I took a stroll down to the Marin Mart suited up in my everyday chambray shirt and Dover blazer....

Gaga for Gingham

I've been gaga over gingham for as long as I can remember. From gingham shoes to purses, dresses to bathing suits and even my love has spilled over into my San Francisco apartment with gingham pillows to blankets. My obsession with gingham is a real one.  There is something about the check that comes off as classic as polka dots or stripes. I just love it. To justify my obsession, the experts at Pinterest released their latest trend guide and searches for gingham are up 100% from last year. I'd like to think I was a solid percentage of those searches. As my style evolves with age, I notice tendencies of gravitating towards preppier looks. Gingham most certainly is tied to the preppy family however there are ways to suit it up towards an edgier style. With that, I'm rounding up gingham in every style category. For the love of gingham I give you gingham everything.

4 Reasons on Why I DryBar

The DryBar has become a beauty phenomenon that’s transformed the hair care market. I first sat down in a DryBar chair in 2013, right around the time I was starting my first job out of college. In preparation for Oracle OpenWorld, I needed the hair to look good. I'd heard of the DryBar through my sister who lived in Los Angeles at the time and blowouts were just becoming a "thing". At that point, the DryBar had around 30 salons or so, most in California. Fast forward to today, over 200+ appointments in my back pocket later, the DryBar has nearly 80+ salons across the U.S., with planned openings in Canada and Europe. DryBar is on track to take in over $100 million in revenue (I’d like to think I helped get them to this milestone) and as if that weren’t enough, since they branched out with a successful line of custom-designed blow dryers, brushes and an equally successful line of hair care products sold nationwide through Sephora and Nordstrom. The DryBar has become a beauty empire and here is why:

San Francisco Fall

With fall around the corner, one consistent trend that hasn’t really left is off the shoulder tops. As we transition to crisper cooler months, expect colder weather versions - chunky cable knits, wools, and silk blends. I love the slouchy look and personally think they look even better with one shoulder covered. The trick to finding the right off the shoulder for cooler weather is think fall - dark colors, cozy sweater or more lux fabrics like silk. I’ve rounded up some off the shoulder sweaters below as we transition into the 2017 fall season...
