Why I DryBar

The DryBar has become a beauty phenomenon that’s transformed the hair care market. I first sat down in a DryBar chair in 2013, right around the time I was starting my first job out of college. In preparation for Oracle OpenWorld, I needed the hair to look good. I'd heard of the DryBar through my sister who lived in Los Angeles at the time and blowouts were just becoming a "thing". At that point, the DryBar had around 30 salons or so, most in California. Fast forward to today, over 200+ appointments in my back pocket later, the DryBar has nearly 80+ salons across the U.S., with planned openings in Canada and Europe. DryBar is on track to take in over $100 million in revenue (I’d like to think I helped get them to this milestone) and as if that weren’t enough, since they branched out with a successful line of custom-designed blow dryers, brushes and an equally successful line of hair care products sold nationwide through Sephora and Nordstrom. The DryBar has become a beauty empire and here is why:

The Expediency

Time is a valuable resource because our time in this world is finite, it's better to do things as quickly as possible. So for me, spending time and effort on things that get me results is the only way. I think the main reason why people love DryBar is that of its convenience. There is nothing like getting your time back. The ease of use of booking an appointment on their mobile app and choosing the style ahead of time versus calling different boutique salons, not always knowing what to expect then paying upwards of $80 for a blowout. Every aspect of what you experience at the DryBar is a lap of luxury but at a fraction of the cost. My generation is a very different consumer; we experience life through technology and expediency. We crave conveniences and expect exceptional customer service at an affordable rate.

The Experience

Experiencing the DryBar is such an easy luxury that can change your day. The DryBar is a place you can count on to deliver a beautiful blowout, an extravagant braid, a 10-minute scalp massage or even a pretty updo. It’s an ambiance that no other competitor has been able to replicate with its sunny yellow and bright white palette, vases of yellow roses refreshed weekly; the champagne or coffee offered on arrival along with trays of mini cookies; the subtitled chick flicks playing on flat-screens, their sound drowned out by the drone of hair dryers. It’s the combination of the bright beautiful ascetics, the romantic comedies, the incredible scents of the products, the customer service at your fingertips for $45.00 that makes it what it is. Not to mention, every DryBar experience is the same. When I took a redeye to New York for client meetings all I wanted was a DryBar blowout and what I got was the exact consistent experience that I get in San Francisco. Repeatability, it’s a beautiful thing and one of the biggest reasons why people are DryBar addicts. Ali Web has created an experience like none other.

The Products

Alli Webb founded the DryBar with one goal in mind: to make the perfect blowout easy and accessible. She seriously succeeded. With her product line, you can extend your blowout or create your own blowout at home. Most of the DryBar products I use help to extend my blowouts which can stand to last up to four days sometimes more with the Dry Shampoo, Dry Conditioner, silk pillowcases and hair cap for shower time. Around the four-day mark, I use the DryBar shampoo and conditioner then detangle with the world's best brush the lemon drop, followed by the 100 proof, the dry oil I can keep in my purse to avoid frizz and apply on the ends of my hair on the go. Did I mention the products all smell amazing? My boyfriend always knows when I get a blowout by that iconic DryBar scent.

The Confidence

"The biggest thing about it is how it makes women feel. I love being in the shop and watching women come in with their hair in a bun, very serious, and they walk out with a pep in their step. It's the transformation. A great blowout, great hair, can really change your day and make you feel good about yourself. That's the magic of what we're doing, and why we've had so much success. When your hair looks good, you feel really good. We kind of joke around that we're not selling blowouts, we're selling the happiness and confidence that comes with a great blowout, but it's so true. You look good and you feel good.” -- Alli Webb

Does anyone else ever feel like a good hair day can make you feel like you can rule the world? Big hair, big dreams? Most of us know that our appearance impacts our lives, personally, professionally and socially and how we feel almost always influences how we look and although what’s inside counts most, good hair, health, and hygiene positivity impacts our lives. When my hair is looking fly my confidence is high (had to, sorry). In today’s complicated world, it is nice to know that a good hair day is a simple, yet a deeply rooted solution to a desire to look and feel good at any age, and something you can accomplish at the DryBar.

This post was sponsored by DryBar but all opinions and experiences are authentic and my own. I was lucky enough to be part of the Grand Opening of the DryBar in Walnut Creek. If you are a Bay Area local I'd recommend giving the DryBar a twirl. You can book your first or next appointment here or download the mobile app via the Appstore here. On another vein, thoughts on this empire becoming the next Starbucks? I predict by 2020 DryBar will be in every state and major city. What are your thoughts? Have you experienced DryBar, yet? Tell me below!
